Hyojong of Joseon was the 18th king of the Joseon dynasty in Korea, who ruled from 1649 until his death in 1659. He was the son of King Injo and was born in 1619 as Prince Gyeongnyeong. When Hyojong ascended the throne, he faced several challenges, including political instability and economic hardship due to external conflicts and internal strife. Despite these challenges, he implemented several reforms to improve the administration and economy, such as reorganizing the land tax and revising the civil service exam system. He also established new institutions, such as the Royal Library and a royal printing office. However, his reign was marred by political intrigue and factional struggles, which continued even after his death. Hyojong is remembered as a relatively successful king who contributed to the stability and growth of the Joseon dynasty.
